okay, I finally have a bit more time to test out the BG. I probably won't be using it for the mod because of the following reasons. I am posting this out not to make you feel bad, HJ, but to point out to hopefully, some future BG makers a very important element in making backgrounds.
Many people who make BGs make the fundamental mistake of thinking "lemme paste all the stuff together in one pic so that the DC becomes easier". I do not mind that happening, if the scenery of the BG are all on the same distance of the player. But no, usually different things shown are of different distances and by doing so, you eliminate parallax scrolling!!
Some of the trees and rocks in the BG you made is definately further away and you chose to paste them all in one pic. Try to avoid that next time, because it makes the BG look as if it has no depth at all. It looks great in a screenshot, but in game, you are mobile. You move around and without parallax scrolling, it just looks weird.
In order to achieve the 3D effect of parallax scrolling, when you have seperate sprites, just leave it as they are and do more DC stuff and layerise them. Adjust the width of each individual layer. The closer you are, the greater the number and the further the scenery to you, the less the number.
The width of each layer cannot be less than 800, or else you will get funky errors. Maybe I will make a tutorial soon.
But I suggest you looking at the Death Star BG I made yesterday, where you can see how I layered the fighting space, the death star, the plantet and the stars.
But seriously, thanks a lot for the effort.
Marshall~
