I'll edit or post again when I can tell you how I would like to fly
ok here it goes
basic flying and aerial fighting
just pop in that attachment as a character
it's not quite polished yet but as an example it should do
id: 0 type: 0 file: dbz.txt
and give it a spin with these things in mind:
you can defend while jumping
all actions during jumping will defy gravity (attacking, defending, injured)
this template already uses two pretty quick kicks right now
during the actual attack frames the character is in defense mode to simulate two characters hitting and blocking each others blows when timed right
what kind of and how many attacks are chained in the air can easily be defined by you
if you let this stuff end in a frantic limb wiggling when pressing attack too often and two characters are tuned to stay in the right position while hitting each other with this you pretty much get a prettier dbz version of that naruto stuff
if you want to do this stuff you will of course have to sprite defending and injured sprites in a way that suits both ground and air situations
that's all for aerial fighting, now for the real flying
right now if you have enough mp and are not pressing any other button after dashing you will go into a flying frame
notice that there is a considerable delay between hitting J for the dash and actually taking some mana and going into the flying frame
during that time you can do every other normal dash action such as attacking or turning to not go into flying (you can also press D to not perform a different action while not flying)
you can also start flying from most other aerial frames
I'm also thinking about adding a U-turn to the backdash - the first backdash frame has a slightly higher wait than the normal dash and thus will not instantly make you fly like the dash - instead this one could make the character fly a U-turn to change direction less abruptly when pressing J during a backdash
and it would also add a cool alternate take off when performing just a backdash
let me know whether this suits you or you've already been thinking about doing things like that
